I’ve mentioned a few times here and there that I’ve been working with Cricut behind the scenes, and it’s time I finally let you all in on the news! Over the past seven months I’ve been working with Cricut to develop a very special Studio DIY collection for the new Cricut Explore™! A few times a month I’ll be sharing with you some oh so very Studio DIY inspired projects (think favor boxes, party attire + more!) that you can craft with just a few clicks of the mouse! Like this papel picado, for instance! Would you really want to cut out all those tiny little holes by hand? NOPE! Cricut does it for you. Keep reading for more info on what the heck the Cricut Explore™ can do, and how to get this papel picado strung up just in time for Cinco de Mayo, too!
The Cricut Explore™, it’s pretty schnazy. It’s a system that combines a cutting machine with online design software so you can produce ready-to-make projects (like mine!), cut thousands of images (over 50,000 to be exact!) and you can even upload your own images and cut ’em right out, too! Say what!? You can purchase a monthly or yearly subscription to access 25,000 images and 200 fonts all day every day, or you can purchase individual images, which start at $0.99!
Don’t get me wrong, I was skeptical at first. As a “I can just do it myself” kind of girl, I didn’t think I needed a machine to cut for me, but let me tell you… after getting one in my hands, I can’t tell you how often I pull it out for projects and how much it makes my life easier! It comes in oh-so handy for party prepping, when cutting out dozens of favor boxes or cupcake toppers sounds less than appealing the night before a birthday, and it helps you make fun things for your home and your wardrobe too (hint hint!)! Shazam! Ok, I’ll stop gushing now… You can pop over to Cricut Design Space™ to peek around at the project possibilities (you may spy a few other Studio DIY items!) and you can learn more about the machine right here. In the meantime… my first project!
To make a project, like this papel picado, head to the project page, click the magical “Make It Now” button after gathering the supplies listed and follow the instructions on the screen. Then sit back and let that machine do the work! All you have to do is feed in the mat, and then string together the pieces once they are all cut! You can make ’em in any color you so choose, too. Options! We like options! If you’ve already purchased a Cricut and want to make this project right NOW, go ahead and click that “Make It Now” button right below and get started!

I’m pretty excited to share all the projects I’ve whipped up! Hint: there’s a lot of sprinkles!!!!!!!! Stay tuned, folks, stay tuned!
