10 of My Favorite Podcast Interviews

My Ten Favorite Podcast Interviews | studiodiy.com

On the few occasions where I choose not to dance and sing at the top of my lungs on the way to or from work, I like to listen to podcasts. My favorite ones to listen to are interviews with people I admire. While most people subscribe to specific podcasts, and I certainly do to some, I also have gotten in a habit of searching for people I want to hear interviewed in the Podcast app on my phone and seeing what I find. That’s how I found a lot of these actually. So here are 10 of my favorite podcast interviews to check out. I’d love to hear your faves too, so be sure to leave them in the comments below!

FYI some of the below also have video components, which I’ve linked to, but you can also listen to all of these on the podcast app on your phone!

Brandon Stanton on Huffington Post

Do you guys read Humans of New York? You should, if you don’t. I follow on Facebook and it’s basically the only reason I’m still on Facebook these days. I love the stories Brandon shares and look forward to them every day. (I was particularly fascinated by his recent Syrian refugee series and his prison series.) ANYWAYS! I think Brandon is one of the most fascinating people and I soaked in every minute of this interview with him. I think I would bawl my eyes out if I ever met him. Hahaha! It’s definitely worth a listen.

Jen Gotch on The Lively Show

We all know Jen is the creative brains behind the crazy successful and quickly growing brand, Ban.do. But what you might not know is just how many different things Jen dabbled in before landing on Ban.do. I think Jess Lively’s interview with Jen will give a lot of comfort and confidence to those of you who may not be sure what you want to do and who may be dabbling in different careers trying to figure that out. It’s pretty fascinating to hear Jen’s journey!

Sarah Jessica Parker on Here’s The Thing with Alec Baldwin

Gosh I love SJP. She’s the star of one of the greatest shows ever, she’s like the quintessential New York gal and she’s also really funny. She was by FAR the best in Vogue’s 73 questions series, but I also loved this interview with her. Did you know she didn’t want to be a part of Sex & The City at first!? Check it out.

Leandra Medine on Oh Boy by Man Repeller

As many of you know, Leandra is the founder of Man Repeller and for the first episode of their podcast (which is one of my faves to subscribe to FYI. I also really like the intro music. haha!), the host Jay interviews her. And she is HILARIOUS. Her stories of her childhood and her family, kill me. On a more serious side note, Leandra is also struggling with infertility and I really enjoyed her thoughts on the topic, and vulnerability, here too.

Shonda Rhimes’ TED Talk

I happen to be a big fan of Shonda’s shows (Lookin’ at you, Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder) and her talk on her “Year of Yes” was really interesting and pretty powerful. I also enjoyed this interview with her. There’s some overlap, but I also found it fascinating to learn that she writes every. single. word. and there is a strict NO ad-libbing allowed on her shows.

Jimmy Fallon on Here’s The Thing with Alec Baldwin

I don’t think I need to write a description for this, as you know that Jimmy could basically just make monkey noises for an hour and I would still listen. But for those of you who love Jimmy, it’s fun to hear him talk about his childhood, his early days in comedy, his epic failure on his first SNL audition, and his success story since then. Gosh, I love him.

Alison Faulkner on Raise Your Hand. Say Yes.

Alison is one of my all time favorite people. I love her on Instagram, on Snapchat, anywhere. She’s awesome because she is real and authentic and hilarious and she makes people feel confident in who they are, no matter what.  And she throws epic dance parties, too. I loved Tiffany’s interview with Alison because she talks more about how she’s built her brand, about letting go of what others think and about how everything isn’t perfect and that’s totally ok. She’s one of the few personalities out there who is honest about life not being magazine-worthy 100% of the time and I really respect that.

John Lasseter on The Film Programme

This one will probably only be interesting to true fellow Pixar Nerds, but I am so obsessed with John Lasseter that I could listen to him talk all day long. This podcast discusses his history with animation mixed in with an interview where he discusses some of the decisions, and thought processes behind them, that he’s made in his career. Disney junkies UNITE!

Joanna Goddard on Of A Kind

Like most women my age (is that a broad generalization!? haha!), I’m a big #fangirl of Joanna (aka the gal behind Cup of Jo). Her blog is always a daily read of mine, and often the topic of conversation between Samantha and I at the studio. It’s always really fun to put a voice to a name so I loved listening to her in this interview! FYI her part starts around the 11 minute mark.

Erin Loechner on Raise Your Hand. Say Yes.

I was lucky to have the opportunity to spend some time with Erin of Design For Mankind last year and she really floored me. She is not only one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, but she is also one of the few people I’ve met who has set such amazing, and important, boundaries in her life. I have a lot to learn from her as far as work/life balance goes, and I bet I’m not alone in that. This interview is a couple years old, but her and Tiffany’s discussion is still so very relevant.

So tell me, what are your fave interviews you’ve listened to? I need some new ones!!!
