Baby boy is three whole months old! Life with Arlo has gotten infinitely more fun over the last few weeks since my two month update.
His little personality is just BEAMING through him and it is the absolute best. We’re learning he is very opinionated and very vocal. And I just love that about him. Just like his mama! I hope it sticks. If he’s mad, he lets you KNOW it. And if he’s happy, he let’s you know it just as much. He screams soooooo loudly, both happily and angrily. Like shrieking-screaming. Ha!
When he’s happy, which is about 90% of the time he’s awake, he’s just chatting and gurgling and shrieking with happiness. Sometimes he can’t finish a bottle because he catches your eye and just starts smiling like crazy. He also started laughing a little bit which just about sends us over the edge. Consequently, he now will let out a high pitched scream when he is uncomfortable too which is interesting when we’re out in public. He sings and screams through our entire Mommy & Me class each week. Haha!
He is *almost* sleeping through the night! HOORAY! We put him down at 7pm, dream-feed him around 10:30 and then nine times out of ten, he’ll sleep until 6 or 7am. 7am is his strict “wake time” so if he wakes up before that, we usually just change diapers, play, etc. to hold him off on his bottle a bit.
Side note: We spent about a week in Palm Springs without his SNOO, which meant he wasn’t strapped in when he slept. We would swaddle him and he would literally manage to turn his body 180 degrees around while sleeping. He is just so active. Needless to say, he did not sleep through the night once that week (boooooo!) but the second we got back home he picked up his normal pattern so fingers crossed it continues! If so, we’ll try dropping the dream feed in a week or two.
He also started partially-rolling over! So I guess that means we have to kiss the regular swaddle goodbye? We tried to put him down without a swaddle once and it did not go well. So we are just going to stick with the SNOO for the time being!
Baby A loves chomping on his hands (and my shoulder and anything he can get his hands on EXCEPT his pacifier, which he still can’t hold in his mouth!) and snuggling his lovey we gave him which we somehow dubbed “bear friend.” He’s getting so much better and stronger at tummy time. He’s chunking up real nice too. 😉 He still loves singing in front of the mirror and looking at himself. He absolutely hates being held in that typical baby-sideways hold since he can’t see anything or anyone that way. He only wants to be up on my shoulder or hip or facing out. Kid thinks he’s a toddler or something!
And that’s Arlo, age three months!

YESS babies always tend to sleep not as well on trips. I don’t know what it is, but it’s so typical.
I love these updates, Kelly! I’m so happy for you that you’re a mama bear now!

Good to know I’m not alone! I figured as much though, change in routine and they’re totally thrown off!
And thank you Amy!! It has just been so much fun! =)

It’s so amazing how fast they grow and change! It’s so nice to drop those late feedings and get full sleep, but a sweetly sleepy feeding baby is just so cute. Bittersweet. My little boy was the same about being held – just wanted up!
Kelly says
Yes!!! Whenever we talk about dropping the dream feed I’m like… but he’s so cute and snuggly when he’s sleepy… maybe we’ll just keep it! haha! 😉

It’s so nice that you are getting rest but be careful going 3.5 hours and then another 7.5 to 8.5 hours until the next feeding. Unless you are getting up to pump during that time you could risk your supply decreasing, early return of ovulation and your little one not gaining enough. He is so adorable but appears a bit on the low weight side. With those two long periods he should be eating approximately every 1.5 to 2.5 hours during the day, some of which is probably cluster feeding. Make sure that you are feeding him between 8-12 times in 24 hours and if you are nursing 8 times then up it to at least 9-10 times to help with his weight gain and your milk supply. If only 6 or 7 then definitely add more nursings to at least 8-9 tiimes A 2 pound per month weight gain is what is the expected average. Don’t assume that your milk isn’t enough if he doesn’t gain enough per the doctor. First try adding in a few more nursing times. Good luck! He’s sure a cute little guy!

Sorry I just found that you are bottle feeding (although you might have induced a supply I haven’t read your entire story yet so I don’t know. If you have not or didn’t know about it, no biggie. I used formula for one of mine, also. Hey they’re fed and loved and the joy of our being! So if he’s not gaining enough still add another feeding but just another 2 ounces maybe. But your story is lovely and I love it.
Sounds like he is sleeping through the night, though. What are you shooting for? 10:30 to 6 or 7 is over what a babies all night is which is 5-6 hours. Hes sleeping 8 sometimes and really more because you put him down so very early and then just do a dream feeding at 10:30. I’m so sorry for the unsolicited advice, I was just worried about your milk and docs mentioning slow weight gain. I wouldn’t even write this reply to my other comment except I wanted to apologize for jumping to a conclusion. Further pictures I see he looks chunkier than the cute monthly ones.
