Over Easter, I decided I was most definitely a traditionalist when it came to Mini Cadbury Eggs. I far prefer the milk chocolate to the newer dark chocolate. (How about you?) But outside of those beloved eggs (I promise I’ll stop talking about them soon.), I’m pretty open to new takes on classic treats. With the glorious world of food blogging comes many a reinvention of long-standing dessert staples. Pies become cake, shakes become cupcakes, cookies become ice cream. It’s just wonderful. Today, I’ve pitted the new and old versions of a few crowd-favorite sweets against each other. Now it’s YOUR turn to decide which ones come out on top! Be sure to cast your votes in the comments, I’ll leave mine here…
Ice Cream Sundae vs. Ice Cream Sundae Mini Cakes
Giant Banana Split Sundae via Oh Happy Day, Mini Waffle Bowl Sundae Cakes by Studio DIY
My Vote: This is an easy one, since I can’t eat ice cream, cakes for the one!
Lemon Meringue Pie vs. Lemon Meringue Cake
Lemon Meringue Pie via Fete Press, Lemon Meringue Cake via Sweetapolita
My Vote: CAKE! Mostly because this cake is just so darn beautiful, I want to frame it on my wall.
Root Beer Floats vs. Root Beer Float Cupcakes
Root Beer Floats via Somewhere Splendid for Style Me Pretty, Root Beer Float Cupcakes via A Beautiful Mess
My Vote: Neither for me! I’m not a root beer fan. But I’d happily attend a party where either of these are served because anything mini-sized, rules!
Baked Alaska vs. Baked Alaska Cupcakes
Baked Alaska via Call Me Cupcake!, Baked Alaska Cupcakes via Sprinkle Bakes
My Vote: The good ol’ original. It’s so majestic looking, I have to make one of these at some point in my life. I worked a wedding once that had baked alaska on a stick. THAT was amazing.
Italian Rainbow Cookies vs. Italian Rainbow Cookie Cake
Italian Rainbow Cookies via Hey, That Tastes Good!, Italian Rainbow Cookie Cake by Studio DIY with Original Recipe by Always Order Dessert
My Vote: Both! These cookies are Jeff’s all time favorite dessert so when I stumbled upon a recipe for a cake version, it became his birthday tradition for me to make it. I make the traditional cookies at Christmas. Pretty much we’ll just take what we can get (make) when it comes to these treats!
So where do you stand on this very important topic? Huh? Huh!? Have you re-made and re-visited any classic desserts? I don’t think this will be the last of these posts, there are just so many good treats out there to share!

I completely agree that everything mini is better. My picks are for the non-traditional versions of all of these, except the root beer float. I love the original when it comes to root beer. Not sure I would want a cupcake that tastes like root beer. But I would probably try it anyway.

You don’t like root beer?! GASP. Jeff is totally right about those rainbow cookies though; they are my cousin’s absolute favorites too! I hate to say it…but I think I’m a traditionalist! Not that I’ll turn down ANY dessert 😉
