I had a wonderful weekend, and enjoyed some fried-food goodness at the OC Fair! How about you!? And I’m pretty excited to finally be sharing my niece Kellyn’s rainbow birthday party today! While Kellyn and I share many traits (Other than our similar names, we love pasta, cheese, strawberries, and we both have freckles going for us!), she isn’t like me when it comes to parties! While I wanted to plan out every inch of my party as a kid, Kellyn just wanted to be surprised. Enter Aunt Kelly. Since the girl loves color, we decided a rainbow-inspired theme fit the bill and in just two short weeks, we pulled together a fun DIY party that the birthday girl surely loved! I’ll be sharing all the DIY projects throughout the week, but first, take a look at the full party in all it’s glory!
Forget identifying the birthday house with balloons, I made a Kellyn sign so everyone knew where the big bash was happening! The balloons, instead, moved instead and became a perfect backdrop for photos.
I’ll tell you more about the fun streamer and fringe projects below on Thursday with a few “Quick Party Tips” I learned from the party!
For favors, we decided on a candy bar with DIY treat bags (Tutorial comin’ at ya tomorrow!) because, really, what looks better in rainbow then sweets!? We hit a few places for the candy, including Target, Party City (great for finding individual colors!) and Rocket Fizz (an awesome resource for soda pop in all colors, too!). The fringe backdrop is probably my favorite part. Don’t worry, that tutorial is coming too!
My other niece Quinn (Kellyn’s older sister) was in charge of games. She came up with all sorts of rainbow games and classic party games in true Caine’s Arcade style. There’s the birthday girl in one of her many rainbow-y outfits of the day. I’m obsessed with her mini party hat we found at a local party store!
Ah, the cake. I’ve been dying to make this cake forEVER and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I could still use some work on the consistency of my cream cheese icing (this was delicious, but very thin), any tips from you pro bakers out there!?
And we ended the evening somewhere over the rainbow with an outside screening of The Wizard of Oz.

Oh man, looking at these photos makes me want to do it all over again! A special thanks to my brother and sister-in-law for letting me run wild with this party theme!

Such a celebration of color! Love the unique take on a balloon backdrop. 🙂
I love the jars of candy and the rainbow cake!
Who did you get the balloons to stay in the wall? Tape or tacks?
I just used a bit of tape for each balloon. Worked perfectly!
How did you do the outside screening of The Wizard of Oz??
Can you please tell me where you got the candy jars from? Thanks
Yes! They’re from World Market: http://bit.ly/1tvzIWJ
Love all the colors!!
