DIY Giant Foam Fruit

Lots of you have been requesting this tutorial for your own fruit-y parties since seeing them in action here! So glad you loved them!! We made these DIY giant foam fruit as a centerpiece alternative to flowers for our table! They’re pretty easy to make with just foam spheres, paint and cardstock and they look so good on a simple tables cape. Alright, wanna make some!?

Total Time:

Supplies

Smooth Foam Half Spheres (We used 8", 10" and 12"
One Dozen Smooth Foam Spheres (For grapes!)
Acrylic Paint
Paint Brushes
Cardstock in Fruit Colors of Your Choice
Scissors
Craft Knife
Hot Glue Gun
Green Pipe Cleaners (For grapes!)

Directions

For the Fruit Slices:

1. Trace the half-sphere onto the largest color cardstock you'll need for your fruit slice. You can use the images above to see what we used!
2. Then cut the remaining necessary pieces, an additional circle and seeds for watermelon, a white circle and wedges for citrus, etc.
3. Hot glue the pieces together as desired and set aside.
4.Paint the curved side of the half-sphere. If you're making a watermelon, paint the entire thing a light green, then while the light green is still wet, blend in some rough lines of dark green to create a striped look. Let dry.
5. Hot glue around the foam edge and place the cardstock fruit you previously made on top! Done!

For the Citrus Wedges:

1. Trace the half-sphere onto the largest color cardstock you'll need for your fruit slice. You can use the images above to see what we used! Make TWO of these, as you'll be able to make two wedges out of your half-circle.
2. Then cut the remaining necessary pieces, an additional circle and seeds for watermelon, a white circle and wedges for citrus, etc. Again, make double of everything.
3. Hot glue the pieces together as desired, forming two full fruit slices, and set aside.
4. Paint the curved side of the half-sphere. Let dry.
5. Now, you'll want to cut the sphere in half, as shown.
6. Place hot glue on one half of the wedge and adhere the cardstock fruit slice. Then place hot glue on the other half of the wedge and fold the cardstock over the cut edges, adhering it to the glue. Done!

For the Grapes:

1. Paint one dozen small spheres purple and let dry.
2. While they dry, you can cut out two leaf shapes from green cardstock.
3. Hot glue the spheres together as desired to form a grapes shape.
4. Hot glue a straight and curled pipe cleaner to the top of the grapes, followed by two leaves. Done!
