Since I’m running around like a crazy lady getting ready for NSS, I invited a few crafty folks to share their DIY genius here on Studio DIY over the next few weeks! Woohoo! First up, the ladies behind Icing Designs. You may remember the gorgeous paper flowers they shared here back at Christmas time, and now they have another paper flower DIY to share, this time for the warmer months! YAY! They jazzed up some paper lanterns with their faux floral creations and these are so perfect for outdoor bashes. Let’s get to crafting, huh? Take it away, Melissa and Kellie…
Mini paper lanterns (You could really do this with any size lantern!)
Tissue paper
Flower stamens (You can get these in the baking section of any craft store)
Ribbon
Scissors
Hot Glue
Layer 6-8 sheets of tissue paper (color of your choice)
Cut out a 2×2 inch square. Fold the square into quarters. Hold the folded tissue at the folded point, starting on one side cut around to make a petal shape (be careful not to cut to close to the point).
Unfold the tissue and layer the flower shapes on top of each other, staggering the petals.
Take the petals and fold them in half gently, cut a small slit in the back middle.
Stick the floral stamens in, put some hot glue on them {under the flower} to hold them in place. Also put a very small dab of glue on the top, layer by layer begin to squeeze each layer of the flower upward. Then fluff and separate them.
Trim the back if there are stamen stems hanging down, put a dab of glue on the back of the flower and glue it onto the lantern. Repeat until you have 3 flowers. If you are doing a larger lantern we suggest using 5-7 flowers.
Turn your lantern over and tie a piece of ribbon on the bottom. You can hang the lanterns with fishing line.

Lovely! What a nice change from the large lanterns! These little ones give you an opportunity to decorate in the most unexpected places that are overpowered by the large lanterns! They look so delicate and fresh! Just lovely!
