Easy Christmas Hot Chocolate Recipe
The first step in serving a hot chocolate charcuterie board like this one, is making hot chocolate. There are a ton of different hot chocolate recipes out there, but want to know my secret? I opt for an easy hot chocolate mix from the store so that I can spend more time on the star of the show: the toppings! And more time with family enjoying Christmas, too.
You can of course pair your favorite hot chocolate recipe with this festive Christmas board, but that simple powdered hot chocolate from the store will do the trick! Since we will be adding so many toppings, this hot chocolate will turn out delicious no matter what.
Best Hot Chocolate Toppings
You definitely have to make sure that your Christmas hot chocolate board has all of your favorite hot chocolate toppings! If you have never had loaded hot chocolate like this before, you are never going to go back to plain hot chocolate. I’ve compiled a list of my own favorite hot chocolate toppings which each complement the hot chocolate in an amazing way. But don’t limit yourself to just my list, you can add any of your own favorite toppings to your board, too!
- Marshmallows
- Sprinkles
- Whipped Cream
- Flavored Syrups
- Candy Canes
- Candy or Chocolate Chips
- White Chocolate
- Brushed Peppermint
- Peppermint Bark
- Chocolate Spoons
When adding liquids like flavored syrups or whipped cream, I recommend using miniature jars! Tie a little red ribbon around them if you’d like to make them a little more festive.
How to Make a Hot Chocolate Charcuterie Board for Christmas
Making your own hot chocolate charcuterie board is simple! You can use any wood cutting boad, but if you’d like to make a festive peppermint board, I’ll show you how!
We’ll start by making a board with red and white swirls to make it look like a peppermint. Then, choose favorite hot chocolate toppings to match, in red, white or pink, to keep with the color scheme! I suggest getting red and white cupcake liners to contain some of the smaller toppings like sprinkles or mini chocolate chips. Let’s get started!
- Paint: Paint an 18″ white wood board with red paint to look like a red and white peppermint swirl. Seal with non-toxic sealer, like mod podge. Then, add a piece of wax or parchment paper that is cut into a circle shape, on top before adding the toppings.
- Add the Best Toppings: Start with one color and arrange your toppings on the corresponding parts of the swirl. For example, place the white toppings, like white chocolate chips and marshmallows, in the white sections, and the red and pink toppings, like mini candy canes and red candies, in the red sections. Then fill in the rest of the sections.
- Serve: Serve your Christmas hot chocolate board with a large pot, or already poured mugs, of hot chocolate!
