BURGER BALLOONS! YES! Balloons aren’t necessarily the first thing you think of when you think of Father’s Day, right? Well, now they might be! I had a lot of fun venturing to the savory side of life for the taco piñata, so I decided to dedicate these balloons to one thing so many dads out there love… the BBQ. If your dad likes to take up residence behind the grill at any chance he can every summer, then he probably deserves these burger balloons for Father’s Day! Tied to a new grill… well I just don’t think you can get a better gift for dad than that! And BONUS! I’m giving away a Balloon Time Helium Kit (and a custom set of balloons!) today so you can be “grilling” these balloons up all summer long! Enter at the bottom of the post!
Yellow (or Gold) Round Mylar Balloons (I bought mine here.)
Balloon Time Helium Tank
Brown, Green and Red Tissue Paper
Hot Glue Gun and/or Glue Dots
Ribbon
Clear Shipping Tape
A few things to remember: Yes! You can use hot glue on balloons. Use the low setting on your glue gun if possible and don’t touch the tip of the glue gun to the balloons. Use as little glue as possible. I used about an inch-long line of glue every six inches. The more glue you use, the easier the balloon will get weighed down and it won’t float as well!
1. Blow up your balloons using your helium tank. Cut a strip of brown tissue paper about 2″ thick and long enough to wrap around the entire balloon, giving it a slightly wavy edge when you cut. (This may require two strips, depending on the size of your tissue paper.) Run small lines of hot glue (set to the “low” setting) about a half inch below the balloon seem and adhere the brown tissue paper around the balloon.
2. Cut a 1.5″ thick strip of green tissue paper making this one more wavy than the brown. This will be your lettuce! I used glue dots to adhere this, slightly above the seam of the balloon.
3. Cut out a couple small “tomato slices” from your red tissue paper. Use glue dots to adhere these in between the green and brown layers.
4. To make your burgers float horizontally, you need to tape your string to the bottom. I used washi tape here so you could see it but please use shipping tape! It’s much stronger and not visible. Just tape the string to the bottom of the balloon and you’re done!
Dad is going to flip for these! Ha, I couldn’t resist. But really… he is.

Omg! I love the idea in the comment above about making macaron balloons! So smart. And I ADORE the burgers! So genius, so adorable… One of my favorite balloon memories was on a trip to Disney World with my friends my senior year of high school. My best friend & I charmed the man that holds a huge bouquet of hundreds of balloons to let us hold it & take pictures. The result is a great photo of a great trip. =)
But I hope to make a new favorite memory this month for my best friends baby shower! I’ve ordered a bunch of the huge, 36″-ers in pink & clear (to fill with big pink confetti dots) and plan to do a Studio DIY/Geronimo-esque tassel treatment. As big as that look is, I can’t say it’s really “hit” Iowa yet. Hope people will be wowed! Hoping a Balloon Time can fill those & winning that tank would be even better!

My Dad was kind of a dead beat when I was a kid, but one Valentine’s Day, he had the biggest balloon bouquet sent to me at school. It was about 15 balloons with a teddy bear and candy, and the kid’s all gathered around oohing and ahhing. It was nice to be the center of attention for a minute!

As a kid my parents told me to hold onto my balloons close and that if they flew away, all kinds of balloons went to the magical land in the sky: “Balloonia.” I’d always picture a place full of every balloon I could think of; balloons shaped like dogs, graduation balloons, sweet 16 ones, vintage shiny mylar balloons, even water balloons that somehow bounced up to Balloonia. Maybe there’s a burger balloon up there!
Ditsza says
