Today’s DIY project is sponsored by The Flair Exchange.
Happy Monday, and happy giveaway day!! I’m so excited to share with you a little collaboration between myself and The Flair Exchange today! They sell the cutest selection of tassel garlands and decor, so I was pretty jazzed a few months back when Carmen emailed me and asked if I’d be interested in designing a color palette for one of her fall tassel garland kits. Umm, yes!! And it’s your lucky day because I’m giving away two of these tassel garland kits to one lucky reader! I of course had to get a little crafty with my sets of garlands… so I turned mine into a giant birthday number! What do you think!? The possibilities with these garlands are endless, so be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post to enter to win a set of your own!
Since I am not so into the traditional fall colors, I decided to go my own route for this project and throw in some classic fall hues, like that bright red-orange and copper, and some not-so-typical pops… navy and bubblegum pink! Isn’t it fun!? Carmen had me put together a palette and then she took over the reigns, finding the perfect tissue and pre-cutting it before putting it into this cute little kit you see below. I love this because it allows you to DIY these garlands without having to cut all the fringe (the most tedious part of all!). With each kit you get pre-fringed tissue for 16 tassels (which makes roughly 6ft of garland), twine and a tool for folding/twisting the tassel together. On the inside of the packaging, you’ll find step by step written and photo instructions. BAM! Does it get easier? I think not. Here’s a peek at the process of turning that garland into a giant birthday number…
Tassel Garland Kit (I used two kits for my #7. Depending on your number and the size you want it to be, I’d recommend getting 2-3 kits.)
Tape or Command Hooks
Unfold and layout one sheet of pre-fringed tissue.
Roll up the tissue until you have a long “tube” with fringe at both ends and fold using the kit’s tool and instructions.
Voila! Repeat with each piece and string all your tassels onto your garland.
Isn’t it gorgeous!?
To turn it into a number, it may be best to first sketch it out on a piece of paper and figure out where you think you’ll need to tape it up (or, alternatively, place command hooks and hang accordingly). For horizontal lines you’ll need more tassels than for diagonal, curved or vertical lines. To make my number seven, I started in the upper left corner and taped the end of the twine, then pulled it across and made a straight line to form the top of the seven. Spread out your tassels evenly.
Then I took my second garland and taped the top of the twine slightly underneath the last tassel then I pulled it very taught in a diagonal line and taped the bottom end. Trim extra twine accordingly. The tassels, believe it or not, stay in place quite well on their own on the diagonal if you are sure to pull the twine taught. But you can always use small pieces of tape to keep them in place if necessary.
Party time!! Now go enter to win your own below!!!!

You could also go crazy and turn these garland sinto letters, writing out a whole name or message! And how cool would it be to make a “2014” for New Year’s!?!? I am of course pretty obsessed with the color palette I got to create, but to check out all the combos The Flair Exchange offers, head right here! And now for the giveaway details…

Love!! Would be going in my girls’ room!
This color combo has to be the best ever. I love it. And such a cute idea to turn the garland into numbers. Clever! If I had to choose a fav color combo from The Flair Exchange, I would go with vintage pastel. I have no idea what I would make with these, but they’re awesome…maybe take them apart and use them as gift toppers?
I would use the garland for a fall celebration that we have coming up, as well as in my son’s nursery when the party is over! I am a follower of both studio diy and the flair exchange on Pinterest.
I love The Flair Exchange! I have a mostly pink and gold tassel garland hanging in my closet, but I’d love to have these for a small birthday party I have coming up. The colors are really beautiful.
