I recently put together a little rainbow Easter egg decorating party for our little family! I pulled mostly a hodge podge of items from our home, and added in some Easter decor, too.
I love challenging myself to shop from our house for a celebration, and only buy minimal items (like the cute velvet bunnies we used!). It’s more sustainable and of course, more budget friendly too. Today I’ll break down how to set up your own little Easter egg decorating gathering and all the supplies I used for ours!
Using Items You Have & Organizing By Color
If you want to put together a tablescape without having to buy a new set of matching items, I love organizing mismatched items by color to give everything a cohesive feel. You of course don’t have to have every color of the rainbow, but even if you pick a few color or shades, you can make a table feel intentional, even when no two pieces match.
For an egg decorating party, here’s a few items to look for around home:
- Baskets for eggs
- Bowls for treats & decorating supplies
- Cake stands for displaying items
- Trays for egg decorating stations
- Pitchers for any drinks you’ll serve
- Bunnies, eggs and other decor
- Ribbon of various colors (this will help tie in neutral items to each color you choose!)
- Craft supplies like markers, food coloring, Washi tape and stickers
I also added a few of our Easter village houses! The sources for the items I used in my tablescape are listed at the bottom of this post!
Color Coded Easter Decorating Stations
Does every family member of your have a favorite color? Try making color coded Easter decorating stations! Of course everyone can mix and match, but it’s a cute way to set everything up and make each guest feel special! Here’s what to put at each station:
- Tray for holding everything
- Egg cup for holding the egg their decorating
- Food coloring
- Glitter
- Markers
- Washi tape
- Napkin, rag or washcloth for drying eggs (and hands!)
- Color coordinated Easter candies, if you’d like!
- Plus vinegar, cups and hot water to use for egg dyeing!
Make (Easy!) Easter Bunny Napkins!
One of the cutest Easter table items, that is as easy (and practical!) as can be is creating these adorable Easter bunny napkins.
Fold the napkin in half, diagonally. Then roll the napkin up from the long side of the triangle to the point. Wrap the napkin around a (dyed, or at least hard boiled!) egg and tie with a ribbon.
Dyeing Eggs in Rainbow Colors
I dyed eggs ahead of time to use as decor, but you can instead provide a formula guide for your family to use when decorating so they can dye their eggs any color they’d like!
If you dye eggs in advance, try grouping them by color in different baskets to use as a centerpiece!
Setting Up The “Rainbow”
Evaluate the items you have and if you want to add any others. See if you see any color patterns forming and group all items into those colors. Remember, you can also fill in with food, drink and treats to add more color where you need it!
Line up the items in gradient order. Try to vary the heights of the items throughout to keep things balanced. If you don’t want to set your food out yet, just put the (empty) plates or server ware you’re going to put the food on into your table to ensure you leave space for it!
Food To Serve At Your Easter Egg Decorating Party
When you’re limited on space, incorporating food into your table decor or centerpiece is a great way for those items to do double duty! For instance, I used a store bought cake, paired with a few dyed eggs as a topper, to anchor our table. Here are a few other ideas for (beautiful) Easter treats that would like great on your table:
- Sprinkle Covered Italian Easter Breads
- Easy Peep Cake (Made from two round cake layers!)
- Easter Bunny Sno Balls
- Easter Bunny Lollipops
- Store bought cakes or cupcakes topped with dyed eggs or egg candies
- Bowls of your favorite Easter candies
